Epistrophy is easily one of my favorite spots in New York. You might recognize this little NoLIta restaurant from this post, or from all my raving on Instagram. It’s a perfect neighborhood go-to place, even if it isn’t in your neighborhood. You can’t go wrong here.
First off, the green façade and blue awnings are just plain cheerful among the bricks and concrete of Mott Street. If it’s outdoor dining season, grab a sidewalk table. Inside, it’s the epitome of cozy: choose from a vintage sofa, a bench at the windows, or a table next to the bookcase. The longer you’re there, the more thoughtful details you’ll notice.
Every day of the week, Epistrophy serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner along with an ever-changing menu of cocktails. On Saturday nights, there’s live jazz – on Sunday nights, $10 pasta specials. There’s no wrong time to stop by, and they even take reservations, but there’s rarely a wait anyway. At brunch, get the lemon ricotta pancakes, and fresh pasta at dinner. Order the burrata any (and every) time you’re there.
Do you need a little more convincing? Don’t worry: the menu is organic and locally sourced. The owners are three friends from Sardinia who ‘fell in love with New York’ and opened up shop in 2005. It’s an easy drinks spot, a great place to meet friend for a meal, a buzzy brunch restaurant on weekends and a quiet café during the week. Like I said, it’s perfect, it’s foolproof – and I’m not sharing my burrata.
